Now from the country that is famous for its waffles, chocolate and beer!
Belgium is a bi-lingual, multi-cultural, modern nation with much bike-o scenery to offer. You’ll head out early one May morning along the light grey cliffs of the pretty Meuse river, then at mid-day pedal down south through small villages, grassy countryside and the dense, green Ardennes forest (made infamous by WWII’s Battle of the Bulge). By afternoon if you reach the curves of the lazy Semois river and after going through cute towns like Vresse and Rochehaut you’ll have two good, long hills to climb to get to Bouillon. Next, you’re back exploring the northeastern area of the country- part of historical Flanders. The flat Flemish landscape looks every bit like the midwestern U.S.A. but the buildings and signs are distinctly European, especially all the flags supporting favorite World Cup teams. For the spectacular finale, don’t miss the bonus hike through the Grand Place of Brussels in full swing- there’s really no comparison! 67 minutes of cycling + 16 minutes of hiking.
