On the Rhine, you’ll cycle through towns of half-timbered houses, historic inns, steepled stone cathedrals plus some of Europe’s finest castles atop every bend in the steep river valley. The swiftly-moving river is alive with boating activity and plenty of fellow cyclists in contrast to the Black Forest (or Schwarzwald) which is vast and mysterious. Here you’ll also ride through traditional “spa towns” of florally-decorated houses, shops and restaurants with gilded signage, and then up hills with horses and orchards.
