San Juan Islands, Washington is a long-overdue journey for sure!
While Bike-O-Vision has been roving all over European and American landscapes the San Juan Islands have meanwhile been peacefully resting in their exquisitely beautiful coastal corner of the Pacific Northwest. This collection includes an exploration along the driftwood-scattered bays of northerly Orcas Island, all the way to the highest point of 2400 Mt. Constitution with fantastic views of the many surrounding islands. It also shares plenty of pastoral Whidbey Island with its pond-dotted countryside, driftwood-covered shorelines, cute towns and a historic fort with a fine lighthouse! In mentioning lighthouses, Vashon Island in the very south of the bay has a tiny one for you to find along its very hilly 25k cycling course! The mossy pine, birch and deciduous forests here are so dense they re downright jungly! Plus, a goat on the roof of a barn and a Tour de France-style devil to cheer you on? Local flavor! And you can get a final stretch along coastal Chuckaunut drive near Bellingham looking out on the Puget Sound and the islands. A very lush, green-and-blue 90 minutes of cycling adventure!
