Slovakia: A landscape of magnificent castles, crystalline rivers and rustic villages is laid out before your eyes. Spissky Hrad, one of the largest castles in Europe, resembles the Great Wall of China with its commanding hilltop view! This fortress resisted the Tatar invaders in the 1200’s- just an example of the historically-rich country. Then perched impossibly on a narrow crag are the crenelated ruins of Beckov, and riding on you’ll see Trencin’s synagogue and medieval citadel.
As a workout, you’ll get climbing through the Stiavnicke range, culminating in the stunning mining town of Banska Stiavnica. Towering, stormy peaks of the High Tatras dominate the skyline in the north of the country, looking fantastically Tolkienesque. In the foreground, rolling corn and wheat fields, deciduous forests and a handmade wooden church will pass your pedaling time effortlessly! And a trip into the colorful walled town of Levoca may also interest you?
If you want more great outdoors in an exotic location with cultural accents, this is it. 60 minutes in length.
